Macworld Conference & Expo Boston 2005: Podcasting For The Masses - Publishing Your Podcast
So you've just recorded the first edition of your fantastic new podcast. Now you need a place to host the audio file and create and publish the RSS feed. New products and services are either being revised or created every day as podcasting continues to explode, but here are some first, best options you should consider for each.
Hosting
- .Mac - You already have it, so why not use it? That 250 megs of online server space is just sitting there waiting for your podcast.
- Libsyn - a dedicated hosting service just for podcasts with great rates and terrific service.
- Host Rocket - A terrific full-fetured web hosting service with generous server space and bandwidth allotments, as well as a variety of click-to-install options for blogs and content management systems.
- Blogger - Not exactly a web host, Blogger will allow you to create an online presence that can include your podcast.
- Odeo - A new service that delivers tools and hosting space for your podcast.
RSS Feed Creation
- Feeder - a shareware tool by Reinvented Software that will help you create your own RSS feed without having to understand the code behind it. Podcasting support is included.
- FeedBurner - an online service that is free for basic use and very affordable if you need more advanced options. Fully supports podcasting as well as the unique tags required for fully functional listings in the Apple iTunes Music Store
- Apple's Chapter Tool - A solution that currently requires work in the Terminal, Chapter Tool allows you to create "enhanced" podcasts that can display graphics, URLs and more if your podcast is played in iTunes 4.9 or greater.
- Apple's iTunes Extended Feed Specification - Information on the iTunes-specific tags you need to include in your RSS feed to take full advantage of the listing options the iTunes Music Store offers.
