Maria Arguello
Main Line Macintosh Users Group
I was born in Granada, Nicaragua, a small country in Central America devastated by a cruel dictatorship under Somoza. I first came to the United States when I was three years old. I lived in a hospital while undergoing treatment for the effects of polio. I have a photograph taken at that time of me posing with John Garfield and Jinx Faulkenburg to become the Easter Seal Poster Child that year. When my parents came to take me back to Nicaragua, two years had passed and I had forgotten how to speak Spanish. My parents didn't know English so it was difficult to understand one another. I was a happy kid in Nicaragua, playing with my younger sisters and going to school. We were three siblings for a long time, Melanie, Lourdes and myself. Milagros came 10 years later. She is a beautiful person whom I love very much. I am very close to her and her daughter, my favorite niece, Alejandra. Dolores my youngest sister lives in Guatemala with her husband Garrett and her three children, Michelle, Margie, and Garrett, Jr. My brother Octavio lives in Managua, Nicaragua.
I left Nicaragua to go to a private high school in the United States in 1957. After graduation, I entered a religious Spanish order known as The Teresian Sisters. I graduated from Loyola University of New Orleans in 1966. I left the convent that year. I got my Masters Degree from West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
I taught high school science in many states like Louisiana, Texas, Nicaragua, and Pennsylvania. I became the Science Department Head at Bartram High School in 1981 in Philadelphia and later transferred to Lincoln High School from where I retired in 1997. My love affair with the Macintosh computer began in 1984 and it's still going strong. I am a breast cancer survivor and very grateful to celebrate life every day.

Richard is a founding member (1986) of the Waterloo Region Macintosh User's Group (WatRMUG) and was president for 14 of the intervening years. He is currently Past-President of WatRMUG. He was also a founding member of the Consortium of Canadian User Groups, a loose federation of Ontario MUGS. He served as president for 4 years and now serves as a director. His involvement with WatRMUG led to him being registered for several User Group Breakfasts at the Boston MacWorlds. Being a workaholic he volunteered to help. This led him to get to know many great user group people and subsequently to be a member of the User Group Advisory Council and the User Group Advisory Board. The failure to add 2 hours to each day and increased requirements of family life, a new job and work with his local neighbourhood association resulted in Richard reducing his user group activities. He still helps when he can and likes to talk your ear off.

She now has a Quicksilver and a titanium PowerBook on the same desk. Debi and her husband Dan recently received a visit from the stork in the person of their new foster son Phillip, who is 13 years old and 5'6" tall. Debi requested a cesarian due to the baby's size. Alice Larson
MacWaves
Alice Larson is the iPresident of MacWaves MUG - Jersey Shore Mac User Group. She has been the leader for nigh on 3 years now. Her credentials include long term use of Macs -- she managed to play with Macs in 1985 while working in one of the first High Definition Television labs in the US. She has used Macs ever since. Little did she know that her background in UNIX would eventually become useful in her work with Macs -- yea to Mac OS X! Early on she worked on a project that involved monitoring computer network traffic so that usage could be charged by the "bit". Fortunately for us, the project did not pan out -- it was bleeding edge technology. The web, as it exists today, really did not exist way back in 1985 -- think of having to pay by the bit! Meanwhile, she earned a M.S. in Electric Engineering. Currently, she also volunteers in a TV production facility, where she helps members of a Senior Learning center as they shoot, direct, and edit various community productions. Her varied interests include web research for interesting questions that arise from the Mac user group community and exploring the local flora and fauna with her husband. Live, learn, grow, enjoy...

Ben Margolius
Southern Tier Apple Club
Ben purchased his first Macintosh computer in February 1984 while living in The Netherlands. He quickly realized the extraordinary potential of the Macintosh interface (previously, he had been using an Apple II), and over the years, he has continued to upgrade as new hardware and operating systems have been released.
A career soldier, he has traveled all over the world spreading the Macintosh word and sharing his Mac expertise. Since retirement from the Army, he has continued his career as a senior Program Manager with Lockheed Martin in Owego, New York.
Ben has been active in many different user groups, including Wiesbaden (Germany), O'Fallon (Illinois) where he was President for two years, and now Vestal (New York), where he has been Vice President and then President for five of the last seven years of MacSTAC (The Macintosh Southern Tier Apple Club). Susan Margolius
Southern Tier Apple Club
Sue was born and raised in Virginia. She attended State University of New York at Buffalo and graduated from Maryland Institute, College of Art with a major in painting and printmaking. In addition to raising two sons, she followed her Army husband all over the world for 28 years, and she still had time to obtain teacher certification in Sogetsu Japanese Flower arranging in Japan, and receive private instruction in pastel portraiture in The Hague, Netherlands.
She purchased her first Macintosh computer in February 1984, little realizing what an enthusiast she would become. Immediately, she put her checkbook on Quicken, while exploring the technology that would enable her to execute paintings on the Mac. Starting with the original MacPaint and finally going to Corel Painter, she had developed her style, which she calls Digital Mixed Media. By using her own digital photography, scanned watercolor and pastel creations, and integrating Painter-applied digital infusions, she has produced a unique art form which is on exhibit in several local galleries and shops.
Sue owes a lot of her confidence and expertise to her participation in her local Macintosh Users Group (MacSTAC). That, coupled with her familys support and critique and her attendance at Macworld Expo New York (this is her fourth year), have all served to embellish and grow her overall Macintosh experience.
Within MacSTAC, she has been the Membership Chairperson for the past four years. Prior to moving to New York State, she was a MUG member at clubs in O'Fallon, Illinois and Wiesbaden, Germany. |

He is in his 28th year of teaching, starting in another nearby district with Apple IIe computers to deliver curriculum.

Jan Williams
Princeton Macintosh Users Group
Jan, iEditor of PMUG's DIALOG, has served as its President and coordinator of various social & outreach community efforts, including RollOuts, AppleStore openings and 3rd time PMUG booth at MWX. Her first Mac was a IIfx in 1991, when thrown into the deep end managing a 24-node network on System 7. A convert more from DOS, dBase III+, Clipper and 15 years of COBOL, she was glad she didn't have to code her own apps anymore.
A sign on her desk 'I'm really a scientist but I have to work with computers to be taken seriously' bespeaks of her background in biochemistry, medical school, mental health physiology, immunological research. She's just finished a book (on her 14" iBook) for Children's Health Environmental Coalition called HOUSEHOLD DETECTIVE, illuminating the toxic risks children face (primarily) at home and educating parents with alternatives on both simpler process and product choice, and imperatives for social action and policy change.
"I have been able to pursue so many more avenues of interest because of my Macs, from genealogical research I wouldn't have begun to pursue, improving my Welsh, to creating fun signs and labels for everything. My dog, Gruffydd, competes with the iBook for being my favourite laptop "Woof.
