TMC Survey: How does your group conduct raffles?
Aug 18, 2005 - Sep 8, 2005 |
Raffles are a traditional part of user group meetings and events, but not every group handles raffles the same way. Some don't charge for tickets, others only let members participate, and still others use raffles as a fundraising option.

Other Options:
- All members receive one ticket. Extra tickets may be purchased by members.
- For typical inexpensive items everyone gets a ticket. For substantial items (more than $200 in value) we sell tickets to everyone ($1 per ticket with maximum 20 tickets per person)
- Meetings are open to the public (no official membership required), but donators of $5.00 or more get a raffle ticket.
- $5 gets you in with 1 ticket and refereshments included. $1 per each additional ticket. Meetings open to the public - no annual member fees as yet.
- When a Swapmeet/Computer Market is run, we do a "Give us a Fiver" promo - entry to the swap meet costs $3, raffle tickets cost $2, but most will hand over the $5 without really querying it and one or two may end up with a nice surprize mid afternoon ;)
Comments:
- You did not not include free tickets for anyone. A BMUG tradition, sigh.
- Each member gets ONE ticket ONLY because our meeting place does not allow "Raffles or Games of Chance" without special (expensive) permits.
- We are looking to grow our numbers, concerned that a membership system with dues is not cost effective to manage.
- We don't get very much stuff to raffle off.
- We charge $1.00 a ticket and anyone can buy as many tickets as they wish. This produces multiple winners some times but no one seems to care.
- 50/50 + prizes; 3 tickets for $2
- Members pay for the meeting hall, non-members need a reason to join
- What about atypical raffles - like the one where we had a prize pool worth over AUD$20,000 and except for the iMac, all the rest was donated ;)
- Raffles have become very popular with our group. We also offer door prizes which are free but members only. With this mix of offers, we have something for everone.
- We have door prizes -- small items, books etc. and raffles--larger items, usually 1-3. Tickets cost $2 or 3 for $5. If you buy a ticket and you are wearing a club logoed item, you get an extra ticket.
