June 2004

For those of you who have wondered if I've dropped off the face of the planet, I'm still here, just getting back on track after the Rogue Valley Mac Expo last weekend.

I hope your summer is off to a good start, and if you're one of the few of us who meets at a school, enjoy your summer break :~)

Here's what's been happening around the area

dBUG, WA Swap Meet, Saturday, 12 June, 2004
Whether you're ahead of the curve or behind the curve, dBUG's annual Swap Meet has something for you! Computers, monitors, hard drives, peripherals, cables, memory, mice.... Who knows what else? (Besides the free Mac advice you can pick up from dBUG members.) Come to buy or come to sell; food, drink and friendly faces await you.

For details about the swap meet & dBUG, go to: http://www.dbug.org/

SPSMUG, WA presents MS Office 04
The meeting of the South Puget Sound Mac Users Group on June 8 will center on an introduction to the much-heralded Microsoft Office 2004 for the Mac.  Since it is a new version, and new to us, this will be a general and elementary treatment.

We had an unusually large turnout last month for the iPod demo; and perhaps curiosity rather than immediate need will also bring people to this meeting.

CMUG, OR iPod Raffle
CMUG (Corvallis MUG) is raffling 4 ipods at our June 15th meeting - one each of the four current models. Tickets are $5 each. Only 999 tickets are available. Winners do NOT need to be present. iPods will be shipped FREE to non-local winners.

To find out who the lucky winners were, head for the CMUG web site: http://www.cmug.com

BSMUG, Montana & a good meet, greet & share
Just a friendly reminder of our upcoming Big Sky Mac User Group (BSMUG) meeting next Sat. June 5th at 1:00 pm at Computer Village (1201 Grand Avenue).

Apple Mousse, Alaska on vacation
The club had its last meeting of the season 2 weeks ago. (We don't meet June, July, August.) The meetings presentation was by a local guy from Computer Werks who repairs printers and stuff. He went over the basics of owning and maintaining laser and ink jet printers. A great topic and excellent presenter. (Have a great summer!)

Summer vacation or not, you'll find Apple Mousse online at: http://akmac.org/

JoMacs, looking back on RVME 04
Last weekend found a small group of JoMacs members enjoying a dinner jetboat trip with the Hellgate Jetboats on Saturday, and Sunday morning came very early & started off with the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors grand opening with a balloon release. The Expo was great, with presentations from Mike Descher from Adobe, a full GarageBand team from Apple, Erik Rogers from Color IQ & Rob Griffiths from Mac OS X Hints. I'm still in recovery mode, so look for a full report, plus pictures within a week or so at the JoMacs website.

Cheers!
