Hands-On iPhoto with Adam Engst at MUG ONE
Learn how to get the most from Apple's iPhoto 2 with Adam C. Engst, publisher of TidBITS and author of "iPhoto 2 for Mac OS X: Visual QuickStart Guide."
Join members of MUG ONE, the Macintosh User Group of Oneonta, NY on October 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Hogdon IRC's Lecture Hall 4 on the SUNY Oneonta campus for a very special program featuring noted author and Macintosh pundit Adam C. Engst.
"In an unparalleled feat of daring, Adam will be showing off iPhoto 2's features completely live, starting with taking photos of attendees and the area, importing them into iPhoto , winnowing out the good shots, editing the images, and assigning keywords and building albums. Once that's done, he'll show multiple ways of sharing photos, including slideshows, printing, and even the best way to produce an iPhoto book. He won't have anything up his sleeve, this won't be one of those canned presentations you've all seen before, so come one, come all, and if you want to help take some photos, bring your digital camera."
MUG ONE meetings are free of charge and open to the public. All are welcome to attend. For more information, go to http://www.mugone.com.

Portland Macintosh Users Group Hosts 37th MacCamp
If you can't afford a $6,000.00 week on a ocean liner how about a week end in the Oregon rain forest ? The Portland Macintosh Users Group is having it's 37th MacCamp. For more information check out http://www.apple.com/usergroups/spotlight/maccamp/ or http://www.pmug.org/pages/camp.html
MacCamp is a weekend retreat for User Group members that includes classes, recreation, networking, and social activities. MacCamp happen in April and October. The next Camp is Oct 17-19, 2003.
You need to bring your own computer and applications. The instructors will have demo copies of programs if they are provided from the companies. PMUG will do its best to get you on the network, however we cannot provide that service for everyone due to equipment and System requirements.
This event is held at Silver Falls State Park, 35 miles out of Salem, Oregon. The cost of Camp includes meals and lodging: Friday dinnner (4:00pm sign in), Saturday all meals, Sunday breakfast and lunch (ends about 2:00pm). Note: there are two people to a room; anyone requiring a single room will be charged for two spaces. This is a nonprofit event and it breaks even or makes/loses a small amount of money.
You must be an active member of a Macintosh User Group at the time of application, proof of membership is required. You can join PMUG if you are not a user group member at this time. See the application below for details.
Kids under 14 must be with an adult who is a parent or guardian. Kids age 14 to 18 must have a signed letter from their parents. We have all ages at Camp from 14 to 80.
Note: Directions will be sent along with notes on what to bring to MacCamp; usually about two weeks before camp. Go to the PMUG web site for news.
The following is a brief description of the classes
PHOTOSHOP: Make a Magazine
This class will meet throughout the weekend in the cabin main room. We will photograph camp activities and use Photoshop to lay out a roughly seven by ten inch magazine with full color and bleeds. We will print one proof copy at camp and each participant will take home the completed file on a CD. These files are capable of being directly printed at any Kinko's (or other direct-from-disk copy shop). The printout will then have to be stapled and trimmed. Kinko's and other copy shops are capable of doing this as well. If you have one, please bring a digital camera. You will be given a CD with layout blanks, so a CD-R is needed unless you are connected to the camp intranet.
This is also your chance to try your hand at reportorial writing. Help is at hand, so don't let this scare you-you don't need to write if you don't want to.
We will be demonstrating two binding methods. The simple staple stitching is a no-brainer, but the second, a version of 'Perfect Bind,' is kinda cool.

Organize all your CDs, records, and tapes with OS X and iTunes
So you've got music in different formats and want to digitize and centralize? This class is for you. We'll discuss the process of converting audio from any existing analog or digital format to files on your Mac hard drive. Often when converting from cassette or vinyl, the file is noisy, has pops and clicks, and other flaws. There are some easy and cheap ways to fix these flaws with software. Finally, you need to compress the files so you can get lots of them on your hard drive. We'll discuss the leading ways to do this, including MP3, MP4, and AAC.
My favorite tool to organize a music collection is iTunes, free from Apple. We'll talk about using iTunes to create playlists, search for music, and edit the tags of your songs such as the album title, song title, and genre. When you're done, you may be able to fit all the music you own on an iPod!
This is a beginner class, and all questions are welcome. You'll need a Mac with OS X and iTunes, and a couple of your favorite audio CDs for practice. Shareware and demo versions of commercial software will be provided on the network.
