Weta Digital will again be one of the major attractions at the keynote address that will kick off the second Digital Solutions Expo to be held on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th September this year, the organisers Expo Solutions Ltd, a Wellington based company advised today. Many technology companies have already indicated their interest in being involved with the expo with either stands or presentations in the variety of seminars on offer.
Te Papa's 3rd floor concourse will again be the venue for the the expo that will highlight the innovations that are signalling the ever increasing move to digital technologies in many areas of our daily lives with a special emphasis on the emerging DVD video and audio technologies.
This years event will coincide with a digital short movie competition that is being organised for any school, amateur or professional movie maker using a digital video camera and computer editing software. This event, organised by members of the Wellington Macintosh Society, will showcase the movies in Te Papa's Soundings Theatre with the prize presentation taking place in the theatre on the Saturday afternoon.
The digital media sector is enormously complex and varied, comprising a disparate range of services and products, across a broad range of applications, platforms and tools, and industry sectors. As such, a number of digital media areas have been prioritised as a focal point and are being seen as the development of the Digital Hub.
In case you haven't tripped across this term yet, it's the notion that the personal computer is alive and well, and that it resides at the centre of your digital universe. Through high speed connectivity such as FireWire (IEEE1394), USB, PC cards, and Wireless Networking, you move multimedia files from cameras, DV recorders, scanners, and MP3 players to computers.
The Digital Hub will serve as the nexus of all the incoming signals into 21st century homes, combining cable television, telephone, and broadband as inputs, and user terminals, video display, stereo system output, and of course, internet access.
