The Flint Apple Club and Expert Entertainment Electronics Host Computer Show to Promote Convergence & Macintosh

The Flint Apple Club and Expert Entertainment Electronics are joining together to host the Flint Apple Club Swap Meet on August 23, 2003, from Noon to 5:00 pm, at Expert Entertainment Electronics location in the Hillside Plaza on Hill Road in Grand Blanc. The theme of the event is Convergence, or in other words, the coming together of computers and entertainment electronics such as TV's and surround sound. This type of event has never been done before in this area, and is free to the public.

“Mac Users are a unique group of people, and we always have goodies to get rid of so we can buy new goodies; then there are the goodies we'd like to use but just don't know how! Well, now MACer’s (Michigan Apple Club Enthusiasts Swap) allows us to do both” says Paul Herring, Chair of the event.

“The First Annual Swap Meet Technology Fest” will be held right here in Flint at Expert Entertainment Electronics, G-1174 Hill Road, just east of the new Home Depot near Grand Blanc, from 12 noon to 5pm. The first of its kind here in Michigan, Herring is expecting hundreds to attend. “We need these kind of events. Not all Mac Users can make it to MacWorld (a Macintosh based Convention & Conference) to meet and talk to other Mac Users.”

The objective, Herring says, is to give area Mac Users the help they want, but may have not been able to find. “We are going to have our experts in page layout, Internet, digital video and photography on hand to answer questions and help Mac Users from all over.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to browse outdoors under a tent, the large collection of computer hardware and software for sale, and inside the store, experience demonstrations of cutting edge computer and networked audio/video technologies. Many of the items in the store will be specially priced for this unique event. Among the hourly demonstrations are:

  • Escient Fireball: The Fireball is a music-lovers dream come true. Learn how the Fireball stores hundreds of hours of CD music, swaps MP-31s with a computer or portable player, how the unit plays hundreds of internet radio stations, and how it automatically connects to an online music database.
  • Philips iPronto: Leave all your remote controls in a drawer. We1ll show how the iPronto easily controls even the most complex A/V system, and how the unit wirelessly connects to the Internet to call up program guides and other entertainment information.
  • HDTV: The beauty and power of HDTV will be demonstrated via programming from local and satellite TV. Attendees will learn the difference between analog and digital TV and the important aspects of digital HDTV.
  • Westinghouse Icebox: This unit is a TV, DVD/CD player, FM radio, and Web Browser with a touch-screen interface. The Icebox allows users to download online recipes, and watch Emeril 3kick it up a notch,2 right from your kitchen. See how all these features work in a small unit that mounts under a typical kitchen counter.
  • Apple Computers: Apple computers are particularly well suited to the job of Convergence because they are the easiest computers to use in the home. Demo’s on TurboTax, Web Browsing, Adobe Premiere, Itunes & IDVD.
