Apple's Garr Reynolds to MC "You Don't Know Mac!"
PORTLAND, OR -- Rolling into its 3rd year and following the on-stage presence of Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak as the Master of Ceremonies last year, the Oregon You Don't Know Mac! statewide Macintosh Users Group celebration event and trivia contest will be held November 17 in Portland, hosted by the Portland Macintosh Users Group (PMUG).
You Don't Know Mac! 2001 will be held that Saturday, 4:30-7 p.m., at Clark Community College. The event is free and open to the public; however, seating is limited and registration is required. Apple Worldwide User Group manager, Garr Reynolds, will be the 2001 Master of Ceremonies (MC). Garr, although based in Cupertino, California, (Apple headquarters) is a native Oregonian.
A $5 donation is asked of each attendee, $2 of which will be dedicated to the American Red Cross relief fund for the victims of the Sept. 11 east coast tragedies. The remainder of the donation goes to help offset event costs. YDKM and our Mac User Groups are non-profit.
Event updates, online registration, and more details about YDKM can be found on the YDKM website:

YDKM is Oregon's premiere celebration of Macintosh User Groups from around the state. It is a one-day event that combines a workshop, inter-MUG communication, resource sharing, and links with Oregon and other major computer industry companies. But it is the trivia contest that highlights the day's celebration.
YDKM's primary purpose is to foster and support a closer Mac community in Oregon. One of its unique celebrations is that the event is hosted in a different MUG town each year. YDKM was launched 1999 in Corvallis, with the CMUG as host, in the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus. Last year's event was hosted by MUGport (Newport) in the Hatfield Marine Science Center.
This will not be your ordinary trivia contest.
Four MUG teams compete on stage for the YDKM Golden Apple Trophy, and dozens of prizes donated by MUG-supporting vendors. The trivia is a collection of Apple, Macintosh and product history. The prizes are intending to be used by and support each MUG. The audience, also, participates in winning prizes during the contest. PMUG, the defending champion and Oregon's largest MUG, will be one of the 4 competing teams on stage since the host always fields a team in the contest. Other teams competing are from the Apple Blossom Computer Club of Winston, and E-MUG in Eugene.
Because the event starts at 4:30 p.m., this provides a wonderful opportunity earlier in the day to soak in some of Portland's attractions --- such as OMSI, the Portland Zoo, Riverfront Park, the Rose Gardens, or other landmarks or establishments.
There are 12 active MUGs in almost every region of the state, and last year 9 MUGs and their communities were represented or participated in YDKM.
In the spirit of everything Apple or Mac, YDKM uses all Macs and other Apple technology to control the trivia event.
For those not familiar with the game from Jellyvision, our event title is a takeoff of the popular software title, You Don't Know Jack! --- one of the most popular trivia games on the Mac and PC platforms.
Many in the computer industry acknowledge Mac users are some of the most loyal, friendly, sharing and fun computer users around. This event should offer more proof. For those of you new to Apple and Macintosh, the contest will give you a great introduction into the colorful and industry-setting history of Apple Computer and the computer that was created "for the rest of us." And it should be a testimony to the spirit of Macintosh User Groups.
Is there an event which is by, for, or about the Macintosh User Group community? We would like to have it listed here! Please send us the details, URL, and any other information.
Events accepted for listing include online events and regional, national or international events. To find out what's happening this month at a specific user group, surf Hershey Apple Core's Ultimate Macintosh User Group List.
