Ross Karchner of the Hershey Apple Core contributed his outline from a recent user group presentation on blogging. Now that .Mac users can use their accounts to create their very own blog with iBlog, comparing and contrasting that with the many other options available can make for a timely and informative meeting. Radio Userland

  • It's a news aggregator as well.

  • Creates RSS Feeds
  • $35 for a year of hosting and updates. The software still works when the year expires.
  • 30 Day trial
  • Supports blogger API on both sides- you can post to radio, and radio can post to Blogger API servers, blogger.com or movabletype for example

Movable Type

  • Ross likes Movable Type.
  • You need to install it as CGI scripts on your server
  • Very Flexible, cool plugins, Set up is kind of complicated though.

  • MovableType is free for non-commercial use

Typepad: Hosted Movable Type, sort of

  • Moblog features
  • Template builder
  • Photo Albums
  • Demo photo blog via email
  • Typepad has several billing levels, 30 day trial.

iBlog:

  • Blog to .mac (also any Webdav, FTP, or appleshare location)
  • Integrates with iLife apps
  • Generates RSS
  • no API support

NetNewsWire Pro

  • Darn cool News Aggregator
  • Can post to any Blogger API site.

Cool Tools:

  • All Consuming: manage a reading list, find out what books people are blogging about. http://allconsuming.net
  • Technorati: Who's linking to you, what are people talking about
  • Daypop: What's everyone linking to today?
  • GeoURL: Who is nearby
  • Localfeeds: My baby GeoURL + RSS
