Macworld Conference & Expo - San Francisco 2005: Planning Team

This team of Macintosh User Group leaders and enthusiasts are responsible for all the user group events at Macworld Conference & Expo.

Gary Adcock
Chicago Final Cut Pro Users Group


When not jumping out of airplanes, scuba diving with sharks, hanging out with rock bands or blowing glass, Gary Adcock is alive and well in the digital world.

Gary, a Chicago-based digital artist and technology trainer, began his career as a commercial photographer. His artistic eye led him to a stint as an interactive designer, then a director and editor. The world of computer technology had him hooked early on and ever since, he has been paving the way and breaking the bounds of creative artistry. The numerous awards next to the keypunch cards on his shelf attest to his teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. Now, Gary spends his time creating digital magic in print and on screen for clients such as Adobe, Apple, CNN, Leo Burnett, NASA, NBA Entertainment, Pepsi, Sony, Sears, Taco Bell and Target. Gary is the founder and president of the Chicago Final Cut Pro User Group, a founding member of the FCPUG Network, and Apple Regional Liaison for all Final Cut Pro user groups.

Maria Arguello
Main Line Macintosh Users Group

Maria O. Arguello is a native-born Nicaraguan, American naturalized citizen who is serving her first term as president and vendor liaison of the Main Line Macintosh Users Group (MLMUG). She also served for several years as member-at-large and as special events coordinator. She is an active member of several MUGs such as the Macintosh User Group of Southern New Jersey (MUGSNJ), Princeton Macintosh User Group (PMUG) where she serves as a board member, South Jersey Apple User Group (SJAUG), and the Macintosh Business Users Society (MacBUS) where she served as secretary for a year, and Macs@PACS. She is a member of the Apple Consultants Network and is the Apple Regional Liaison for the northeast United Stats as well as online user groups. Maria enjoys learning about the diversity of the user group community and loves to attend conferences for the Mac to represent her home group, MLMUG.

Rex Covington
Houston Area Apple User Group

Rex has been a member of his user group for over eleven years, is a past president and is the currently serving as vice president of programming. Rex owns and operates a consulting business based on Filemaker Pro and Mac support, and is the Apple Regional Liaison for Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Pat Fauquet
Washington Apple Pi

Pat Fauquet is serving in her second term as President of the Washington Apple Pi Macintosh User Group in the Washington DC metro area. She also serves as their Tutorial Coordinator. When not at the Pi, she does Macintosh consulting and training for small companies, individuals and schools. She specializes in working with senior citizens and helping people move to OS X in addition to her work in digital photography and video. Her license plate reads Mac Mom 5. The five represents her five children, and these days, the number of grandchildren she loves to talk about, not the number of older Macs in the back of her car on the way to the Pi Reclamation Project.

Sandy Foderick
Virtual Mac


Sandy is a founding officer and current president of AOL's original user group, former board member at the User Group Network and former Chancellor of AOL's User Group Learning Center. She has met and worked with user groups across the United States and is a member of Virtual Mac and Mini'App'Les. When not busy with user groups, Sandy is an adjunct professor and a mom of four.

Sarah Friedlander
Rochester Institute of Technology Macintosh User Group (MacRIT)

Sarah is a sophmore at Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in New Media Publishing. Her involvement in User Groups prior to college includes membership in the Long Island PDA/Handheld Users Group, the Long Island Mac Users Group and the New York City Final Cut Pro Users Group. She is currently serving her second term as MacRIT's Vice President. When not sitting at her computer, Sarah enjoys photography, watching sunsets and eating sushi.

Trish Huffman
Triangle Macintosh Users Group

Trish left her career in the medical field to stay at home with her ever-expanding family -- both the two-legged and four-legged variety. She is MUG Producer at World Without Borders and works to bring MUG events to WWBChat's Apple Community Connection. She currently serves Triangle Macintosh Users Group, based in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, as their Apple Ambassador and vendor liaison. Trish has been a member of the Apple User Group Advisory Board since January 2002.
Gary Kampel
Palm Beach Macintosh Users Group

Gary's record of service to his group includes terms as vice-president, ambassador, SIG leader and several Board of Director seats. Gary is a Mac teacher at the Palm Beach Lakes Communith High School Continuing Education Program and he works as the lead Macintosh Customer Support Technician for Zoom Telephonics. Gary's (Global Village). As an Apple Regional Liaison, Gary covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina and Tennessee.

Chris Kiltz
Josephene County Macintosh Users Group

Chris is a professional web designer in real life, and has been president of the JoMacs (Josephine County Mac User Group) in Grants Pass, Oregon since 2002, and is also currently the AUG Regional Liaison for the northwest. She had her first Mac encounter in 1999, fell in love and got involved in the local user group. Her main focus in her "Mac" world is to help others "catch the Mac Fire". Her favorite place to be (if not with her Mac) is on the wilderness trails of Southern Oregon, relaxing with her hubby and enjoying the incredible scenery.

Rick Ortiz
Maui Apple Users Society

Rick is a long-time member of the Maui Apple User Society, Maui, Hawaii, where he has served as president since 2000. Upon joining the group in 1997 he worked hard to help them build from thirty members to over two hundred. Rick previously worked in the non-profit sector in Maui for six years in addition to serving on various volunteer boards of directors. Rick currently owns a Multimedia/Mac consulting business. He has combined his talents with technology and non-profits to create programs within the community that help bridge the digital divide and offer access to computers for everyone.

Thomas Piper
appleJAC

Tom founded aJMUG in 1984, then served as its President for the first 14 years. He initiated their monthly newsletter and meetings, electronic bulletin board and website, education SIG, public and parochial school support, and other efforts. As a trained architect and health planner, he also promotes inter-platform communications through his agency, his advocacy, his passion, his faith and other efforts to turn barriers into bridges. Tom represents Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North and South Dakota and Wisconson as Apple Regional Liaison.

Lynn Poos
Silicon Mountain Macintosh User Group

Currently the Secretary-Treasurer of the largest active MUG in the State of Colorado, Lynn has been involved with the Mac since the late 1980's. Lynn has also been involved with Apple Computer on several promotional ventures and consulting. In the spring of 2001, Lynn was appointed to the Regional Liaison Team. He was reappointed in 2003 and named the Regional Liaison for the South West United States. He holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor's Degree in Police Science and Administration. Retiring in 1993 after thirty-four years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Lynn moved to Colorado and was appointed by the City Council to serve on the Colorado Springs Liquor and Beer Licensing Board. In 1998, he was appointed by the Governor of Colorado to chair the Colorado Juvenile Parole Board, a position he currently holds. In 2002 this Board was recently featured in an hour-long special on A & E1s Investigative Reports, where Lynn prominently displayed his Macintosh PowerBook on camera.

David Roemer
Apple Student Core @ Emory, Emory University

David works with Apple in its Buzz Marketing group and focuses on meeting the needs of the youth market and campus group community. He's a member of the Apple User Group Advisory Board and is currently studying at St. Andrews University in the United Kingdom. David founded the Apple Student Core @ Emory University in Atlanta, GA, a group that has pioneered several campus events such as iMovieFest that get students excited about doing more with technology.

Lorene Romero
North Coast Macintosh Users Group

Since January 2000, has been the Apple User Group Advisory board’s vendor relation coordinator. Lorene continues to work diligently with various vendors in order to provide MUG members with the opportunity to receive great monthly "special product deals." As President of North Coast Mac Users Group in California, she chairs their annual Mac Computer Expo and coordinates the NCMUG booth hosted at Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

Elsa Travisano
MUG ONE

Elsa has been a guiding force for MUG ONE (Macintosh User Group of Oneonta, New York) for 16 years. She is currently serving her third term as president, and edits MUG ONE's award-winning newsletter, Newsbreak. She is a member of Apple's User Group Advisory Board and edits the Apple User Group Bulletin.

Elsa comes from a Mac family. Her father, Philip Thompson, was founding president of Princeton1s PMUG, and her husband is a former MUG ONE president. Her son is studying video editing on the Mac and her daughter is a budding software reviewer who had to stand on a piano bench to see the audience when she first began giving MUG ONE presentations.

A "Mac of all trades," Elsa works as a Macintosh consultant and has taught training workshops, classes for children and adults, and a college course in the Mac.

Macbeth Vannoy
North Coast Macintosh Users Group of Ohio

MacBeth is a very busy Mac user, wife and mom, and spends her working hours as a medical assistant. She is heavily involved in NCMUG-OH's program of reburbishing old computers for schools and needy families. MacBeth's participation in her group's leadership includes acting as vice-president, program coordinator and vendor/review co-liaision. Her territory as an Apple Regional Liaision includes Indianna, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Warren Williams
AppleWorks User Group

Warren is the President of the AppleWorks Users Group, the largest user group in the world, and is a member of Apple's User Group Advisory Board. Professionally, Warren is a Professor Emeritus of Educational Technology at Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Williams has written more than 500 articles published in psychological journals and technology magazines and newsletters.
